2. Prepare Your Home

The Day Before: Make way for your Building Analyst to work. You want her/him to be focused on inspecting your home, not moving furniture or breakables. The last thing your Building Analyst wants to do is damage something in your home. Follow these simple tips to make your assessment run fast, efficient and as smooth as possible:

  • Move furniture, drapes or other furnishings away from heating duct registers, crawl space and the attic
  • Clear a perimeter around your furnace and hot water heater
  • Make sure pets are in a safe place, especially if they may be sensitive to someone new moving through your home
  • Have your utility bills handy, so your Building Analyst can assess how much energy your home currently uses

You should plan to be home and to participate in the process and be available to discuss with your Building Analyst your concerns and your experiences with your home.
